Gem Cameo Proof 1877 Twenty Cent Piece1877 20C PR65 NGC. This is a wonderful Gem Cameo proof example, although it is not designated as a cameo proof by the grading service. Both sides have essentially brilliant centers, surrounded by lilac and blue color that is deeper on the obverse. The short-lived 20 cent denomination was coined for circulation only in 1875 and 1876, and then strictly in proof format for collectors during the next two years before being discontinued entirely. It was an experiment that was doomed to failure for many reasons.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 27H4, PCGS# 5305)
