Description:
Popular MS68 2000-P 'Cheerios' Dollar
2000-P $1 Cheerios MS68 NGC. FS-901. This increasingly popular variant was introduced to the United States through its inclusion as part of a promotion for General Mills cereals, hence the "Cheerios" nickname. Several years after the original distribution, Paul Gilkes wrote in Coin World about differences in the eagle's tail feathers between the "Cheerios" dollars and later 2000-P examples, and a collector craze was born.
The present "Cheerios" dollar has bright yellow-brass surfaces with crisp overall detail. The obverse is virtually pristine, and only a few faint ticks are visible under magnification. This lot also includes a promotional 2000 Cent MS66 Red NGC, distributed at the same time. Both coins are housed in a custom-format large NGC holder; original cereal-box packaging not included.
