Description:

1908-D Motto Twenty, Boldly Struck MS66
1908-D $20 Motto MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1908-D Motto double eagles are today mostly found around the Select grade. Gems are rare. The present Premium Gem is one of only about two dozen such at PCGS, which has seen but three finer (2/13). The 1908-D Motto in the Duckor Collection was one of only three MS67 PCGS examples. David Akers wrote in the Duckor catalog that both the 1908-D No Motto and the 1908-D With Motto were elusive in any grade higher than MS63 until around 1983, even though the With Motto was a touch more available. The present Premium Gem Motto coin displays radiant luster over boldly struck surfaces that show a range of color from orange-gold to lilac. Marks are at an absolute minimum. An excellent coin for a type set.(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26F9, PCGS# 9148)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
