Description:

1909/8 Double Eagle, MS64
First Major Dual-Hub Overdate Error
1909/8 $20 MS64 PCGS. FS-301. The 1909/8 twenty dollar is the first of the dual-hubbing errors that resulted in overdates well-known to (and much-beloved by) collectors today, including the 1918/7-D nickel, 1918/7-S quarter, 1942/1-P and -D dimes, and the 1943/2-P nickel. Coin dealer Edgar Adams first published this variety in 1910. The present near-Gem displays bountiful luster over orange-gold, frosty surfaces that show only a few scattered, trivial marks confined mostly to the reverse. A high-end example with lots of eye appeal. Note that the number of Gem submissions is far fewer than that of near-Gems. Population: 96 in 64 (2 in 64+), 22 finer (4/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 26FC, PCGS# 9151)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
