Description:
Conditionally Rare 1913 Twenty, MS64+
Extremely Attractive Color, Close to Gem
1913 $20 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. David Akers writes on the PCGS CoinFacts website that "above the choice level ... the 1913 becomes one of the rarest issues of the series. One can find a gem 1931 or 1932, or even a 1927-S, 1930-S or 1931-D, more easily than one can find a gem 1913." This piece is so close to that level, one of six that PCGS has certified MS64+, with 10 finer (10/12). (Note that PCGS has seen several hundred 1913s in MS64, giving a better idea of its conditional rarity as Gem is approached.) The over-the-top eye appeal is attributed to sparkling, softly frosted luster over surfaces that display extremely attractive, rich reddish-orange color. Only a few scattered, minor marks seem to keep this piece away from the lofty Gem level.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 26FN, PCGS# 9161)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
