Description:
1924-S Double Eagle, MS62
Rare, Once Upon a Time
1924-S $20 MS62 PCGS. A review of historical price data for the 1924-S double eagle is informative, instructing the reader of its perceived rarity over the years. In the late 1940s and early 1950s, the 1924-S was one of several issues that were important rarities, and valued higher than the 1927-D. In the early 1950s, this issue was valued at over $1,000. In the early 1970s, the value was $300 to $400, following the return of many from overseas holdings. Today, the 1924-S is considered a scarce issue, but not rare. This pleasing Mint State specimen has brilliant luster with wisps of green and pink toning. Both sides have myriad marks.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 26G9, PCGS# 9179)

Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
