Description:
Choice 1925-S Saint-Gaudens Twenty
Only Four Finer Coins at NGC
1925-S $20 MS64 NGC. The 1925-S Saint-Gaudens double eagle is a condition rarity in the series, the only mintmarked issue from the 1920s that is seen more often in circulated grades than Mint State. Unlike many dates of the series, the 1925-S never surfaced in large quantities in overseas holdings. Examples in MS64 condition are rare in today's market.
The present coin is an attractive Choice example, with sharply detailed devices that show the slightest touch of softness on Liberty's torch hand and some of the eagle's feathers. Some die striations are noted at O in DOLLARS. The fields display pleasing green and yellow-gold color, with vibrant mint luster and strong eye appeal. Census: 21 in 64, 4 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 26GC, PCGS# 9182)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
