Prized 1930-S Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle MS631930-S $20 MS63 PCGS. The 1930-S is the rarest of the 1929-1932 Double Eagles, with only a few dozen pieces extant after an original production run of a mere 74,000 pieces. In the entire series, only the legendary 1927-D Saint-Gaudens is appreciably more elusive in Mint State grades. Offered here is a nicely preserved example of this prized rarity, with richly frosted surfaces that have surprisingly few abrasions for the assigned grade. Most of the contact marks visible under magnification are well concealed within the folds of Liberty's robe. If judged on its own merits, the reverse would warrant a Gem designation. The strike is well executed in all areas and pale green-gold highlights are detected at select angles. Certainly one of the highlights in this extensive offering of challenging Saint-Gaudens Double Eagles.
