Description:
Important Near-Gem 1839 No Drapery Dime
1839 10C No Drapery MS64 NGC. Fortin-105a. An important, short-lived type coin, the No Drapery issue is an especially desirable issue in mint condition. Probably somewhere around a hundred pieces have been certified by NGC and PCGS in MS64 and better grades, but this is nowhere near enough examples to satisfy collector demand for high grade 19th century type coins. This particular coin displays pinpoint striking details and the surfaces are smooth and satiny with just the slightest overlay of toning. Mildly abraded overall with three more noticeable field marks on the obverse. A die crack bisects the obverse. Fortin writes about the present variety, "This is an extremely rare early die state variety and always in demand due to the lack of availability of Pie Shaped Shattered obverse examples." Population: 37 in 64, 58 finer (3/05).
