Description

1851 Seated Liberty Dime, MS67
Possibly Finest Known, Ex: Eliasberg

1851 10C MS67 PCGS. CAC. Ex: Eliasberg. Despite a substantial mintage of more than 1 million pieces, the 1851 Seated Liberty dime is an elusive date in high grade. This date may have been heavily melted in 1853, when the weight of most silver coinage was lowered to reflect the economic realities of the time.

The present coin was once a highlight of the famous Eliasberg Collection, a badge of distinction for any coin. The design elements are well-detailed and the flawless surfaces radiate vibrant mint luster under attractive shades of chestnut-gold and turquoise toning. Eye appeal is terrific. Housed in a green label holder. Population: 1 in 67, 0 finer (4/13).
Ex: Possibly H.S. Wilson Collection (Ben Green, 6/1906); John M. Clapp; Clapp Estate; Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.; Eliasberg Collection (Bowers and Merena, 5/1996), lot 1142.(Registry values: N1) (NGC ID# 238L, PCGS# 4595)
