Elusive Gem 1857 Seated Dime1857 10C MS65 PCGS. Fortin-102. The 1857 is the last large mintage Dime struck before the Civil War. While frequently used as a Stars type coin, it is seldom available in MS65 condition. This lovely piece is brilliant throughout and has soft, frosted mint luster. One small scratch is noted under star 1 to the left of the rock in the field. A bit softly struck around the margins, which, of course, is the reason for the design change in 1860. Struck from lightly clashed dies. Population: 11 in 65, 2 finer (3/05).
