Description:
Sharply Struck 1858-O Dime, MS64
Conditionally Rare Antebellum Issue
1858-O 10C MS64 PCGS. The 1858-O dime production of 290,000 pieces was mostly pressed into circulation in antebellum New Orleans and the surroundings, a time when steam-powered commerce was transforming the region into a booming economy, among the most important in the Deep South. The 1858-O dimes are scarce overall, and Mint State specimens are very rare. This near-Gem is the sole example so certified at PCGS, with six finer, and the totals at NGC are identical (8/10). This silver-white example boasts an extremely sharp strike on Liberty's head and all obverse stars, just short of full. Both sides are free of singular contact and show a light wash of golden color.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 2392, PCGS# 4617)
