Scarce Mint State 1861-S Seated Dime1861-S 10C MS62 PCGS. The relatively low mintage of 172,500 pieces doesn't even begin to explain the scarcity of this challenging Civil War era S-mint, particularly in XF or better condition. To illustrate this point, only two other Mint State examples have been offered in Heritage auctions. The subdued, satiny surfaces of this Condition Census representative are typically struck, with minor softness noted on the top of Liberty's head, and just a hint of granularity observed near the reverse border, indicating slight die wear. Die clash marks and faint pinscratches reside in the obverse fields.(Registry values: N1793) (NGC ID# 239G, PCGS# 4634)
