Description:
Originally Toned, Sharply Struck 1840 Seated Dollar, MS62
1840 $1 MS62 NGC. A dusky toned, original example of this scarce issue that was last offered for sale as lot 6473 in our 1993 ANA Sale, where it was described as, "Sharp and original, displaying steel-gray toning that deepens to specks of violet and reddish-gold about the devices. Unlike other first year issues and particularly unusual since a regular issue silver dollar had not been struck since 1803, the 1840 dollar was not saved in any significant quantities upon resumption of the denomination. In fact, mint state survivors are flat out rare." Population: 4 in 62, 3 finer (1/02).
