Colorful MS62 1840 Seated Dollar1840 $1 MS62 PCGS. The 1840 Seated dollar issue marked the first five-figure production of the silver dollar since dies of previous years were used to strike the denomination in 1804. The existence of the so-called "Gobrecht" dollars, however, inhibited the usual first-year preservation bonus, and so examples at the MS62 level are conditionally rare. This piece, housed in a green label holder, has dappled blue-green and gold-peach patina over each side, with the obverse giving equal time to the two hues and the reverse favoring the former. Luminous and well struck, though lightly abraded. Population: 14 in 62, 13 finer (9/11).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24YA, PCGS# 6926)
