Description:
1844 $1 AU58 PCGS. Breen-5431. The shield is die doubled, and has four lines within the vertical stripes. Bold die polish lines border the eagle's wings near the shield. An original example that has luminous apricot-gold color and only lightly abraded fields. Well struck, and with only a hint of rub near the knee. A scant mintage of just 20,000 pieces ensures a paucity of borderline Uncirculated survivors. Population: 17 in 58, 22 finer (11/04).(#6930) (Registry values: N991) (NGC ID# 24YE, PCGS# 6930)
