Description:
Elusive 1850 Seated Liberty Dollar MS64
1850 $1 MS64 PCGS. Open 5. Breen-5443. The base of the 0 in the date is repunched, and there are die file marks below the 50 in the date, as reported for proof strikings. Confirming Breen's observations, the reverse diagnostics do not match those used on proofs from the previous decade. Both sides possess pinpoint sharpness on the highpoints and shallow reflectivity in the fields, being also heavily striated on the reverse. Beautiful cobalt-blue and violet toning frames the obverse while amber accents combine with similar shades about the reverse periphery. High grade survivors of this elusive issue of 7,500 business strikes are seldom offered and are of great significance to Seated Dollar specialists. Population: 1 in 64 (3 at NGC), 0 finer (3/04).(#6937) (Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 24YM, PCGS# 6937)
