Rare 1850 Seated Dollar, MS631850 $1 MS63 PCGS. Rising silver prices in the late 1840s and early 1850s explain this issue's limited original mintage of just 7,500 business strikes. When offered at all, 1850 Seated Dollars are apt to grade VF-XF. According to Bowers (1993), Mint State representatives are rare, and "extremely so in MS63 or better." In fact, according to current NGC and PCGS population data, all examples certified at or above the MS63 grade level (there are only 6 coins, 5/01) qualify for Condition Census standing. Fully prooflike, the present specimen is lightly overlaid in tan-gold iridescence that yields to untoned brilliance in the center of the reverse. Sharply struck with a sprinkling of small to moderate abrasions on both sides.
