1859 S$1 MS63 NGC....
Attractive and Scarce MS63 1859 Seated Dollar1859 $1 MS63 NGC. More than a quarter million silver dollars were struck in 1859; however, examples are much more difficult to locate than one would imagine from the mintage. Large numbers of 1859 and 1860 dollars from all mints were shipped to the northern ports in China as trade dollars, but once they arrived most were melted and converted to bullion. As a result, NGC has only certified eight other pieces as MS63 with 13 finer (12/04). This is a well, but not fully struck example that has a smooth, satin-like finish. Rose colored toning is seen over each side with light accents of lilac at the top of the obverse. Minimally abraded for the grade with a couple of small planchet flaws in the right obverse field.
