1859-S S$1 AU58 NGC....
Collectible High Grade 1859-S Seated Dollar1859-S $1 AU58 NGC. Breen-5462. The Philadelphia mint shipped 10 pairs of Seated Dollar dies west for this, the premier issue of this denomination at the San Francisco Mint. Since only 20,000 coins were struck, it is highly likely that most dies remained unused. Repunching at the bases of the 1 and 8 in the date attributes the present example, and it is an early die state. There is just a slight trace of rubbing on the highpoints. The surfaces are a deep orange-gray color with a light coating of dappled patina, mostly in the fields. There are a couple of moderate abrasions in the fields on each side, including one under Liberty's cap and a small grouping under OF on the reverse. A well struck and nicely preserved coin, which must not have spent more than a very brief period in circulation.
