1861 $1 MS64 NGC....
Scarce 1861 Dollar, MS641861 $1 MS64 NGC. The mintage for the 1861 Seated dollar was a generous 77,500 pieces. However, a significant number were exported overseas, and the 40,000 silver dollars melted in 1861 by the Philadelphia Mint to provide bullion for subsidiary silver coinage likely included dollars with this date. As a result, the 1861 is very scarce in all grades. This near-Gem piece is well defined throughout with even, satin-like luster that has taken on an overlay of rich, medium density gray toning with an undertone of rose that is apparent when held beneath a light. Census: 16 in 64, 4 finer (10/08).
