Challenging MS62+ 1862 Silver Dollar1862 $1 MS62+ PCGS. CAC. Although more than 1.3 million gold dollars were struck at Philadelphia in 1862, the facility only produced 11,540 business strike silver dollars that year. This proved to be the lowest mintage of the decade. Unsurprisingly, the 1862 is rare in Uncirculated grades, and is unknown above MS65. This is a mildly prooflike piece that has a bold strike, lightly abraded fields, and a hint of chestnut-gold toning. Population: 1 in 62+, 30 finer (9/10).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24Z5, PCGS# 6952)
