Description:
Choice AU 1870-CC Dollar
Rich Golden-Gray Toning
1870-CC $1 AU55 PCGS. Variety 2-E. The first issue of coins from Carson City were silver dollars on February 11, 1870. Coinage of the denomination resumed intermittently throughout that year. The eventual total was 12,462 pieces, using three obverse and five reverse dies. The present Choice AU example shows only slight wear and is richly patinated in autumn-gold and lavender-gray shades. Remarkably free from contact, though a hair-thin diagonal line beneath the beak is mentioned as an identifier. Population: 36 in 55, 30 finer (6/12).(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 24ZE, PCGS# 6964)
