Description:
Flashy 1870-CC Seated Dollar--Choice Uncirculated
1870-CC MS 63 PCGS. The 1870-CC dollar is a popular collector coin for two reasons. First, it is the first year of issue from the eminently collectible Carson City mint. Second, only 11,758 pieces were struck. While the mintage is low, there are actually quite a few circulated examples examples known. Reliable estimates range from 75-275 to more than 500 pieces in all grades. Mint state coins are quite scarce, but within the Seated series of CC dollars, the 1870-CC is the most frequently encountered date. This is a very flashy coin, as are most high grade '70-CC dollars. The fields have a bright semi-prooflikeness and the coin is brilliant throughout except for a tiny grease stain (as struck) on the obverse rim at 10 o'clock and two short streaks of grease that were struck into the planchet over the U in UNITED. Sharply struck throughout with no mentionable abrasions. Population: 5 in 63, none are finer (7/95). (NGC ID# 24ZE, PCGS# 6964)
