Description:
1872-CC Dollar, Well-Struck MS62
Elusive in All Grades
1872-CC $1 MS62 PCGS. With only 3,150 pieces produced, the 1872-CC is a rare and highly sought-after Seated dollar. Numismatic researchers have long speculated as to what happened to this small mintage, as no more than about 10% of the issue has survived. Some were probably released into circulation, exported to China, or melted. In any event, PCGS and NGC have graded only about 275 pieces, fewer than 25 in Mint State.

The light silver-gray surfaces of this MS62 example retain a fair amount of luster, and the design elements are uniformly well-struck. A few minute marks are within the parameters of the grade designation. A thin, diagonal linear mark to the left of the D in DOL. will help pedigree the coin. Population: 3 in 62, 3 finer (11/13).
