Description

1838-O No Stars Half Dime, MS62
Among the First New Orleans Mint Issues

1838-O H10C No Stars MS62 NGC. Half dimes and dimes were the first coins minted in New Orleans, and both are highly desirable today. Dies were shipped from Philadelphia before the decision was made to add 13 stars to the obverse. As a result, all 1838-O half dimes and dimes are from the earlier No Stars design. This deeply toned piece has lovely steel blue and iridescent patina with underlying satin luster. Census: 3 in 62, 6 finer (1/11).
From The Dr. William F. Duffy Collection.(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 232N, PCGS# 4314)
