Choice BU 1838-O Half Dime, MS64 NGC1838-O H10C No Stars MS64 NGC. By far the scarcer of two No Stars Half Dime issues and, more importantly, the first Half Dime issue struck at the New Orleans Mint. Just 70,000 pieces were produced. One might expect that the novelty of the '38-O Half Dime would lead to many dozens, even hundreds being spared from circulation, but such does not seem to be the case at all. The present example is one of perhaps twenty known Uncirculated survivors and is currently tied with 4 others as the second finest known to both services combined. The strike is typically bold and both sides are untoned. Some slight muting of the luster is the only mentionable, grade-limiting factor. Population: 3 in 64, 1 finer (7/03).(#4314) (NGC ID# 232N, PCGS# 4314)
