1844-O H10C MS64 PCGS....
Low-Mintage MS64 1844-O Half Dime1844-O H10C MS64 PCGS. The 1844-O half dime saw a low initial mintage of only 220,000 pieces in antebellum New Orleans at a time when that city was the "Queen of the Delta," and high-grade examples have proven elusive ever since collectors began collecting coins by mintmark, a phenomenon that was firmly established only much later in the late-19th to early-20th centuries. This near-Gem displays soft, frosted mint luster and is almost brilliant, save for a hint of yellowish patina in the fields. The reverse is rotated 180 degrees with respect to the obverse, making the coin appear struck in medal turn rather than coin turn. The piece is identifiable by a couple of small spots below star 13. An important offering for the Seated half dime collector, seldom seen finer. Population: 3 in 64, 1 finer (6/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 2336, PCGS# 4334)
