Description:
Elusive 1848-O Premium Gem Half Dime
1848-O H10C MS66 NGC. Medium O. Despite a mintage of 600,000 pieces, the 1848-O half dime is not an easy coin to find in any grade. Only about 115 examples have been certified in all grades by NGC and PCGS. Of these, about 20 are Premium Gems, with five pieces grading finer. This example displays attractive splotchy cobalt-blue and lilac patination overlying lustrous surfaces that are well preserved. A sharp strike is noted on the design elements. Census: 15 in 66, 1 finer (2/06).(Registry values: N1) (NGC ID# 233C, PCGS# 4340)
