Rare Gem 1852-O Half Dime1852-O H10C MS65 PCGS. This is one of the finest existing 1852-O Half Dimes surviving today. The mintages was 260,000 coins, a modest total for the New Orleans Half Dimes of this era. The previous year saw a mintage of 860,000 coins, the highest production of Half Dimes in New Orleans after 1839. While demand for small denomination coinage remained high during this period, the rising price of silver kept the supply at a low level. Coins that were minted immediately fell into the hands of bullion dealers who melted them down, or recycled them for a profit.
This example has frosty surfaces with exquisite pale gold color over fully brilliant luster. The surfaces have a few tiny marks, and some weakness is noted on the stars and Liberty's head. The specialist will be delighted to bid on this example, one of the few that have survived in high grade. Population: 2 in 65, 1 finer (11/05).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 233L, PCGS# 4350)
