Description:
1851-O WB-4 Half Dollar, MS65
Late Die State
1851-O 50C MS65 PCGS. CAC. WB-4, R.3. Five die varieties are recorded in volume III of A Register of Liberty Seated Half Dollar Varieties. The WB-4 is the only R.3 variety, while the other four are each slightly scarcer at R.4. Thin die cracks travel from the inner point of star 13 to the drapery above the sandal, and more faintly from the sandal to the rim nearby. On the reverse bold clash marks show within the vertical shield stripes. A faint die crack through the E of STATES reaches the eagle's head.
An interesting and lovely Gem of this issue, made to the extent of only 402,000 pieces. The last 1 in the date is noticeably lower at both top and bottom than the adjacent 5. This lustrous, unabraded, well-struck piece has deep golden and amber patina on both sides with excellent eye appeal. Population: 3 in 65, 1 finer (11/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24HK, PCGS# 6267)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
