Description

Premium Gem 1859-O Half Dollar
Brightly Frosted and Virtually Unimprovable

1859-O 50C MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1859-O Seated half dollar saw a prodigious production exceeding 2.8 million coins, and the 1860-O and 1861-O coinages were each large as well. But the shadow of Civil War lay over the Southern facility, and after 1861 no more half dollars would be struck until the 1892-O Barber half. The present Premium Gem 1859-O is sharply defined throughout, displaying bright mint frost below gray-rose central toning that turns blue at the margins. A barely visible luster graze appears in the left obverse field, and a series of milling marks on the reverse, below the lowest arrowhead, are strictly in accord with the grade. Population: 7 in 66 (1 in 66+), 1 finer (5/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 24HZ, PCGS# 6297)

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato

The Draped Bust Half Dollars of 1796-1797 by Jon Amato is the culmination of more than 10 years of research into the Draped Bust Small Eagle half dollar series, one of the most coveted type coins in American numismatics and one about which remarkably little has been written.

This work will be the premier reference for 1796-1797 half dollars for years to come. Institutions having an extensive numismatic library or coin cabinet will find it a valuable complement to their holdings, and catalogers charged with writing up specimens for auction can now have an indispensable source of background and pedigree information. Likewise, coin dealers seeking to purchase one or more '96 or '97 half dollars for a client or for inventory, and collectors who own, have owned, or desire to own one will want this important reference work for their libraries.
