Description

Tied for Finest Known 1849 Quarter, Lustrous and Original Gem

1849 25C MS65 NGC. Briggs 1-A "compass point" reverse. A boldly struck and carefully preserved example of this conditionally challenging date, with superbly detailed devices throughout. An early die state of the variety, with only traces of the usually encountered peripheral die cracks found throughout the reverse legend. Shimmering pale peach-gold obverse and rich crimson and lilac reverse tones highlight the clean, lustrous surfaces, while a bold, reflective cobalt patina covers portions of both fields. The present example shares the honor of being the finest certified by NGC with one other specimen, and there are no Gems certified by PCGS to date.(#5413) (NGC ID# 23T2, PCGS# 5413)
