1850 Quarter, Extraordinary MS66
Second Finest Known, Ex: Mills-Eliasberg

1850 25C MS66 NGC. Ex: Eliasberg. Precious few of the 190,800 Seated quarters delivered by the Philadelphia Mint in 1850 escaped the rampant melting of the early 1850s. The majority of survivors in today's hobby are circulated to one degree or another, and, at the MS66 level of preservation, this originally preserved example easily qualifies for high Condition Census standing. Mottled russet shadings adorn the otherwise champagne-lilac surfaces, and one can also discern isolated swirls of electric-blue color in a few areas around the obverse margin. Warmly frosted with crisp striking detail and no disturbing handling marks. Census: 1 in 66, 1 finer (3/13).
Ex: John G. Mills Collection (S. H. and H. Chapman, 4/1904); J. M. Clapp; John H. Clapp; Clapp Estate, 1942; Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr.; Louis E. Eliasberg, Sr. Collection (Bowers and Merena, 4/1997), lot 1447; Long Beach Bullet Sale (Heritage, 9/2002), lot 905, where it brought $9,000.(Registry values: P4) (NGC ID# 23T4, PCGS# 5415)
