1851-O 25C MS63 NGC....
Finest Known 1851-O Seated Quarter, MS63 NGC1851-O 25C MS63 NGC. Easily the best example of this rare issue that we have seen or sold. The strike is far above average with a nearly full head, and a few obverse stars on the left side that show their radial lines, while the rest are weak. The obverse is lustrous with silvery-rose and autumn leaves color, while the reverse is more reflective and shows light silvery-gray color with hints of underlying iridescence. There are a few light marks and hairlines on the surfaces, but the overall level of quality and appearance is excellent for the grade. The rarity of this issue can best be expressed by the fact that the Eliasberg: 1450 and Pittman: 1320 coins were both marginal AUs.
The 1851-O, along with the 1849-O, is the rarest Stars Obverse Liberty Seated Quarter. When available, the 1851-O tends to be found heavily worn and it is very scarce even in full Extremely Fine. It is unlikely that there are more than a dozen known in Mint State, and this is clearly the finest thus far certified (11/04).(#5418) (Registry values: P5) (NGC ID# 23T7, PCGS# 5418)
