1852 25C MS63 NGC....
Elusive, Lustrous MS63 1852 Seated Quarter1852 25C MS63 NGC. Briggs 2-B. Throw away the reported mintage figures for the 1849-1853 No Arrows coinage. No one today truly knows how many of each issue escaped the smelters in 1853-1855 or so, when the silver content of those pieces, as measured in gold dollars, rose sufficiently above their face value to make melting not only profitable, but predictable. This well-struck, golden-pink example boasts bountiful luster and premium appeal, although an undistracting bit of die grease near the final A in AMERICA is noted. Census: 8 in 63, 10 finer (8/08).
Ex: J.D Garrett / ANA Mid-Winter Sale (Heritage, 2/1986), lot 893, where it realized $950.
