Very Rare Uncirculated Details1852-O 25C -- Improperly Cleaned -- NGC Details. Unc. By 1852, an influx of West Coast gold bullion had changed the traditional gold to silver ratio. Speculators melted many silver coins, and silver depositors became scarce. Thus, only 96,000 1852-O quarters were struck, and undoubtedly many were melted. The median certified grade is VF, and only a few Mint State pieces are known. The present satiny example lacks detrimental abrasions and is toned in subdued steel-blue and chestnut-gold shades.(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23T9, PCGS# 5420)
