Description:
Beautiful Superb 1853 No Arrows Quarter
1853 25C No Arrows MS67 NGC. Briggs 1-A. The Guide Book reports a mintage of more than 15 million pieces for the 1853 Arrows and Rays issue. But the No Arrows variety is significantly scarcer, since just 44,200 pieces were produced. These feature a boldly repunched 53 in the date. There was little need to strike the No Arrows issue in quantity, since the pieces were likely to be promptly hoarded from circulation. This penetratingly struck Superb Gem is brilliant save for a hint of tan toning. The lustrous fields lack any indication of contact, and in fact there is no apparent reason why this piece did not receive an even finer grade. Census: 3 in 67, 1 finer (10/06).(Registry values: P6) (NGC ID# 23TA, PCGS# 5421)
