1856-S 25C MS62 PCGS....
Luxurious 1856-S Quarter, MS621856-S 25C MS62 PCGS. In the hardscrabble atmosphere in which the early San Francisco Mint operated, the vast majority of coins vanished into commerce almost as soon as they were released, and this held true particularly for minor silver, which was in chronic short supply. The survival of Mint State pieces such as the present coin must be considered improbable, yet fortunate. Strongly lustrous surfaces toned blue-green, violet, and gold host devices that are exquisitely detailed at the periphery. Though a handful of wispy abrasions in the fields preclude Select status, the overall eye appeal is grand. Population: 3 in 62, 3 finer (10/08).(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23TD, PCGS# 5440)
