1864-S 25C VG8 PCGS....
1864-S 25C VG8 PCGS. A very appealing example for the grade, the golden-brown patina is uniform on both sides and, although this example is well-circulated, the wear is even overall and there are no mentionable surface marks. During the 1860s, San Francisco struck half dollars in considerable quantity but produced far fewer quarters. The 1864-S has a particularly paltry mintage of just 20,000 pieces. A contemporary absence of West Coast collectors ensured relatively few survivors. Population: 6 in 8, 44 finer (1/13).(Registry values: P7) (NGC ID# 23TZ, PCGS# 5460)
