Description:
1872-S 25C VF25 NGC. A mere 83,000 quarters were struck at the San Francisco Mint in 1872. A low mintage, combined with heavy attrition of coins in California during this period make this an especially scarce issue. It has been some time since we have seen this issue in one of our sales, so this evenly circulated, charcoal-gray specimen is a welcome addition to our auction. A couple of contact marks on the reverse are worthy of mention but should not deter a bidder from considering this specimen as it is unlikely that another piece will be available anytime soon.
