Description

Finest Known 1873 No Arrows Seated Quarter

1873 25C Closed 3 MS63 NGC. One of the most overlooked rarities in the Seated Liberty series. The estimated mintage was just 40,000 pieces before the Arrows were added to denote the weight change that was ordered by Congress. This example is the highest graded so far by either service and may very well be the finest known. Fully lustrous with some soft violet color covering most of the obverse, the reverse is brilliant and untoned. A few minute surface marks on the obverse keep this coin from grading higher. Well struck throughout with sharp detailing even on most of the stars. The reverse is fully struck and nearly blemish-free. An important opportunity for the astute numismatist. Population: 1 in 63, 0 finer (7/03).(#5484) (NGC ID# 23UU, PCGS# 5484)
