Description

1878-CC Quarter, MS66
Bright, Shimmering Surfaces

1878-CC 25C MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1878-CC had a mintage close to a million pieces, but high-grade examples are very scarce. Only 10 total pieces have been certified by both PCGS and NGC in MS66, and a single coin is finer (9/11). The fields on this coin are bright and shimmer with semiprooflikeness, especially so on the reverse. This was caused by apparent heavy die polishing, the effect of which can be seen by the lightness of several peripheral letters on that side. The obverse displays light rose patina with blue around the margin, while the reverse is mostly brilliant with just a tinge of golden at the rim. Housed in a first-generation holder.
