Description

Low-Mintage 1886 Quarter, MS66

1886 25C MS66 PCGS. CAC. The 1886 has the second lowest mintage in the Seated Liberty quarter series (5,000 business strikes), and is considered the rarest Philadelphia Mint issue (Larry Briggs, 1991). PCGS and NGC have graded fewer than 100 specimens in all grades.
Prooflike fields on this near-Gem example establish strong contrast with frosted design elements. A thin layer of golden-gray patina races over both sides, and a well executed strike leaves sharp definition on the devices. A few minute obverse marks possibly keeps this better date quarter from an even higher grade. Population: 11 in 66, 1 finer (11/08).

The marketing was exceptional from the photos to the ads in Civil War Times and North South Trader for the cross over people!!! I have had many emails from my Civil War collecting fraternity that saw these and I saw them at the national show in Nashville/Franklin in early December.
