Description:
1888-S 25C MS 62 PCGS. Briggs 4-D. Contrary to numerous numismatic sources, Larry Briggs (1991) asserts that this S-mint quarter is quite common through the MS 64 grade tier. Even if this were true, an example with the eye appeal and cleanliness of this specimen must be considered quite scarce. Intense blue-green and gold iridescence envelops both the obverse and the reverse and serves to conceal the few wispy abrasions that pepper the surfaces. Despite these features, however, there is nothing distracting about this boldly impressed, lustrous piece that would preclude it from an even higher Mint State grade level. An excellent candidate for inclusion in an advanced collection of toned quarters. (NGC ID# 23VN, PCGS# 5521)
