Description:
1869 Shield Nickel, MS65
Rarely Encountered Finer
1869 5C MS65 PCGS. CAC. Reverse of 1867, Wide Date. Produced in excess of 16 million pieces, the 1869 is not overly elusive in MS65, but finer coins are decidedly rare. This example is moderately well-struck, though a few of the right wreath leaves and a couple stars show a touch of the typical weakness seen on this type. Faintly toned, with light lavender-gold color over the obverse and subtle powder-blue and champagne hues on the reverse. The usual array of fine die cracks is seen near the borders on each side. Population: 69 in 65 (2 in 65+), 13 finer (6/14).
