Rare MS64 1880 Nickel1880 5C MS64 PCGS. A handsome example exhibiting delicate pewter gray toning on both surfaces. Hints of faint navy blue complement the reverse. The devices are frosty and sharply struck, and the fields exhibit considerable prooflike character. The 1880 is a desirable scarcity having a scant mintage of just 16,000 business strikes. Uncirculated survivors are much scarcer than proofs, a situation that has resulted in the fact that collectors are willing to pay many multiples of the proof price to acquire business strikes in a corresponding level of preservation. This applies to all grade levels from MS60 to MS64, and up from there. Here is a prize that is certain the delight the numismatist who desires pieces that are characterized by the dual attributes of beauty and rarity. Population: 7 in 64, 4 finer (6/05).(#3810)(Registry values: N2998) (NGC ID# 276E, PCGS# 3810)
