Description

1916 Standing Liberty Quarter, MS64
Elusive Full Head Example

1916 25C MS64 Full Head NGC. From a tiny mintage of 52,000 pieces, the 1916 Standing Liberty quarter is the most sought-after issue of the series. The design featured a bare-breasted figure of Liberty that proved quite controversial, and the Type One design was modified the following year to include a modest chainmail vest for Miss Liberty, creating a popular short-lived design type for collectors.

In his series reference, J.H. Cline notes that the 1916 is always softly struck on the head and shield, but this impressive Choice specimen shows enough detail to qualify for the Full Head designation. The lightly marked surfaces are blanketed in delicate shades of pale gold and lavender toning, with vibrant mint luster underneath. Census: 49 in 64 Full Head, 65 finer (8/13).
