Very Rare Near-Gem 1918-S Overdate Quarter, Sharply Defined1918/7-S 25C MS64 PCGS. As if the underdigit itself were not enough proof, the small die chip above the pedestal to the left of the lowest star on the right confirms the authenticity of this popular and rare overdate variety. Not discovered until 1937, collectors of the day had little choice at that point but to pull a coin for their collection from circulation. Very few Uncirculated coins are known, probably no more than two or three dozen in all grades. This is one of the finest we have handled in some time. The mint luster is very pleasing and frosted, as one would expect from an S-mint quarter. The striking details are a little less than complete, as usual, but the definition on Liberty's head only lacks the ear hole for Full Head status. Lightly toned and nearly abrasion-free. Population: 20 in 64, 7 finer (10/03).(#5726) (Registry values: N7079) (NGC ID# 243A, PCGS# 5726)
