Description

1927-S Quarter, MS65+
Low-Mintage Condition Rarity

1927-S 25C MS65+ PCGS. In recent years the 1927-S Standing Liberty quarter has gained a large part of the notoriety it so richly deserves. Its mintage is among the lowest issues in the entire series, at 396,000 coins, and the typical bourse floor is apt to yield few (or no) examples in Mint State; in fact, most survivors appear to grade no more than Very Good to Very Fine. This Gem shows surfaces that are quite frosty and bright snow-white, complemented by the faintest suggestion of gold patina. The strike is insufficient for a Full Head designation, but much eye appeal is present. There are few marks of significance. Non-Full Head quarters offer good value in today's marketplace, and some mighty appealing (and well-struck overall) sets can be put together for a fraction of the cost of a Full Head assemblage. Population: 40 in 65 (2 in 65+), 36 finer (4/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 243W, PCGS# 5764)
